GETTING TO KNOW Gaurvi Sharma
"Gaurvi Sharma may evade the definition of being a pop artist, by sheer virtue of the fact that she is more Expressionistic even if some of the mediums she engages in are popish. Known for her collage work, she has recently taken the trajectory of working with linear small format drawings that are colourful and expressive. Her world is peopled by women and children, nature and urbanity. Lurking under the face-value of her works is her dry wit and humor."
The things happening around me become a part of my work sometimes consciously and sometimes subconsciously. I have lived in different countries and each one gave something to my works. I discovered my fascination for collages while living in Japan.
Japan left a significant impact on my works, It left me excited and flooded with visuals, and from linear and flat colour my visuals took a graphic and more detailed look.
I recently moved to Chandigarh, Its a beautiful city. I was missing the connection with nature which is now being fulfilled, going for a morning walk in the park and just lying down and slowing down, makes me feel closer to life and to myself. Now visiting a crowded city makes me feel that I may lose my identity and my own self. My recent works are about my bonding with nature.
